How it works
From your couch to the dance floor.
There are two halves to DJ Mode: the quiet evenings when you build it, and the one night when you run it. Here's exactly what each one looks like.
Part one — building it
The part you do in your pyjamas.
You start with a board, not a blank page
Tell DJ Mode what kind of event it is and it lays out the usual moments already in order — for a wedding that's prelude, processional, recessional, cocktail hour, grand entrance, first dance, parent dances, dinner, cake, open dancing, last dance. Rename them, delete the ones you don't need, add any we didn't think of.
Each pad holds one song or a whole set
A first dance pad usually holds one song. A dinner pad might hold twenty. Inside a pad, songs play top to bottom and crossfade into each other automatically. When the last one ends, the pad loops back to the top, so dinner never runs out of music because nobody was watching.
You bring your own music
Upload the actual songs you want from your own library — drag them in from your computer. Not a streaming search that might return the wrong version, not a stock library that sounds like a hold message. The exact recordings you chose.
Every fade is tunable
Each pad carries its own takeover time: how slowly the previous moment fades away when this one is tapped. DJ Mode guesses well from the name — a processional gets six seconds, a dance set gets three — and you can change any of them to anything from one second to nine.

Part two — running it
The part somebody else can do.
Any device with a speaker
Phone, tablet, or laptop, plugged into the venue's system with a cable or paired to a Bluetooth speaker. Nothing to install — it's a web page.
Share the link, keep control
Send the board link to whoever's running it. They can tap every pad and change nothing — no renaming, no deleting, no access to your account.
One tap per moment
Tap a pad. The previous song fades out over that pad's time and the new one starts from the top. Tap the next when you're ready.
Full transport, if you need it
Play, pause, restart the song, skip to the next one, or fade everything out. There's a progress bar you can scrub, and a countdown so you know how long is left.
The scripts are right there
Scroll below the pads and every announcement is written out with your names in it. Read it on the mic, scroll back up, tap the pad.
Nothing to remember
Every decision was made weeks ago. On the night there is exactly one skill required: read the button, press the button.
Worth knowing
The honest details.
Does it need internet at the venue?
Yes. The board loads your music from our storage, so the device running it needs a working connection. Venue wifi is usually fine; a phone hotspot works too. If you're somewhere genuinely off-grid, test it in advance from the same spot.
What if the phone rings mid-song?
Use a device that isn't somebody's main phone if you can — an old phone, a tablet, or a laptop. Put it in do-not-disturb and turn off auto-lock. That is the whole preparation checklist.
Can I change things at the last minute?
Right up to the moment, and during the event too. Add a pad, swap a song, reorder the board. Anyone on the share link picks up the change next time the page loads.
What happens to my songs afterwards?
They're kept for 10 days after your event date, then deleted automatically — and we email you before that happens. If you need them longer, renew for $19. Full policy →
